Qualifying conditions in Oklahoma
Unlike most other states which have qualifying conditions for medical marijuana, Oklahoma has no specific list of qualifying conditions. This decision is left entirely up to the doctor’s judgment. Any Oklahoma doctor who is licensed and in good standing can recommend cannabis. NuggMD’s physicians are licensed and in good standing in Oklahoma and fully qualified to recommend cannabis.
How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Oklahoma
Some patients choose to have – or are required to have – a designated caregiver who can purchase, transport, possess and administer cannabis products for them.
Your physician must designate the caregiver on the Physician Recommendation Form. A caregiver application may not move forward without this written designation from the physician.
Caregivers can care for up to five licensed patients. Adult patients may only have one caregiver. Minor patients can designate up to two caregivers. Registrations expire on the same day that the patient’s registration expires.
To qualify as your caregiver, they must:
- be a family member or assistant who regularly looks after the patient
- be a resident of the state
- be designated by the patient on their own application
- possess a Physician Recommendation Form filled out and signed by the patient
- have proof of identity, and an acceptable photo
- not begin their duties until approved by the OMMA
Caregivers cannot:
- use the patient’s cannabis,
- purchase or possess more than the maximum amount allowed for the patient,
- cultivate
There is no caregiver application fee.
How to register for a med card in Oklahoma

Oklahomans 18 and older with a diagnosis from their physician can participate in the program. Oklahomans 18 and under must have recommendations from two independent physicians and an adult caregiver. Visiting out-of-state patients with a state-issued medical marijuana card from their home state (not just a recommendation) can obtain a temporary MMJ ID that’s good for 30 days. For now, having an OK med card is the only way for Oklahoma residents to legally purchase and possess cannabis in the state. Oklahomans qualified a ballot initiative to vote on cannabis legalization in November, but the vote has been delayed by several lawsuits attempting to block or delay legalization. The vote for cannabis legalization will be set by the Governor sometime between January 2023 and the November 2024 election.

Yes, but the list of acceptable ID is short. You’ll need an unexpired OK driver’s license or ID, a Tribal ID accepted by the Department of Public Safety, or a US passport or other photo ID issued by the U.S. government to apply. In addition, you’re going to need one document to show proof of residency in the form of the previous year’s OK tax return, or a utility bill from the previous month, including TV or internet, but not cell phone.
